The Birth Of A Giant
An indigenous quest for Global Energy...
Nestoil Limited started out as the Oil and Gas arm of the Obijackson Group in 1991. At the time, local participation in the Nigerian Oil and Gas sector was very limited. Nestoil’s original focus was blending and marketing petroleum products, but the new company was compelled to re-analyse its focus in the face of more established foreign competitors with easier access to funding. The spirit with which Nestoil sought to overcome this challenge has continued to define them as a company till today: driven by a desire to create real value as a Nigerian Oil and Gas company, Nestoil boldly identified an opportunity within the sector and reinvented itself as an Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning (EPCC) services company to the Oil and Gas - and Energy Industries. Amid questions about whether an all-Nigerian company had the capacity and organisation to deliver on technically complex projects, or the ability to amass the best talent to aid its cause, Nestoil persisted through several disappointments and near-misses, guided by a conviction that it was on the right path.
The big break’ was to come six full years later, when Shell awarded Nestoil a contract in 1997 to rebuild its Waste Treatment Plant in Edjeba, Delta State. Nestoil surpassed every expectation with the completion of the project – in terms of quality of the work and project delivery time. It received a Shell award for excellence in quality and safety, followed quickly by two other contracts:
- The Opokushi Flowstation Upgrade Works
- The Otumara Flowstation Debottlenecking Train 3 works
With this, Nestoil began a tradition of success and never looked back. Over two decades later, Nestoil has become the leading EPCC firm in the region and first choice for the likes of industry leaders such as Shell, Mobil and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). Today Nestoil has become a successful enterprise with over 1, 500 employees (at least 95% indigenous) capable of world-class project execution, and ranks first among indigenous companies of its kind.
Completing one project after project after another, Nestoil has grown to exemplify its operating philosophy – ‘we deliver results, not reasons.’
